Notepad Poems #3
by Ricky Novaes de Oliveira
Hey you! Hope all is as well as it can be, or is getting better. As for me, year 1 of my MFA program is done! Woo hoo! 2 more years to go—one more taking classes, and then one last to write a book.
This week, I’ll round out the set of “Notepad Poems” I’ve been sending out over the past month. The poem above is part of a larger set which I started writing for a grad school course final. The paper ending up being 44 pages long! It’s funny—I spent almost a whole year working on a 26-page thesis paper back in undergrad, and now I busted out this final paper in about a month. I guess I am getting better at this writing thing, and hopefully this paper is testament to that.
Here’s the Google Docs link if you want to read the final paper [disclaimer: lots of academic jargon, aka me trying to sound smart, and probably errors and mistakes in it]. The poems I haven’t yet shared on Oliveira Poetry start around page 26.
Whew. Time to fully embrace summer break! I’ll be working part-time at UCSD, traveling, editing my novella, and snoozing on the beach. Hopefully that means I’ll also post here more consistently! We’ll see.
