MOM’S HAIKU
by Ricky Novaes de Oliveira
When steam or spittle cloud your view, just wipe away; See yourself anew
Dear Mom,
you’re the strongest person I know, and I say that despite often thinking I’m invincible. Even when times are tough, you keep your head held up, and we look up to you for it.
I don’t remember what was wrong that led me to writing this poem, but in writing it I tried to emulate you. Staying positive in a world so random and cruel is tough, and reminders like these are ones you give me constantly. When I’m down, you lift me back up! So I think it’s fitting that this corny-but-sincere poem—which first exists on a note card against your bathroom mirror—is named “Mom’s Haiku.” This one’s for you.
Happy day after your birthday, Ricky
Happy tears cloud my view right now! ❤️
Thank you for retaining and reflecting my reminders so poignantly. You’re right, mom needs them too sometimes.
Eu te amo…MTYM!
Love this! Happy birthday 🥳
