TWO SHORT POEMS
by Ricky Novaes de Oliveira
Lotus eaters: Joyce, Wall-E, social media woman in bed reading magnets attached to a flexible arm nightstand, moon glow controlled by remote she holds under covers *** I wish to say each time I close my eyes there’s more to do tomorrow
One hour after
this email hits your inbox, I will be teaching a college course for the first time. What the hell? What the hell!
Busy week of new starts and orientation. Maybe for all of us.
Two short poems this week. Both were squeezed out in between other activities, and both are hoping to grow. I think I like the second one better, even though it is more plain and straightforward. The first one is getting at something but I’m not quite sure what yet. I present both to you so you can see how my ~art~ develops: moments and ideas; edits and gold-digging; polishing and self-publishing. I’m not always sure about the what or the why or even the how, but I can feel that it’s poetry.
Lmk which one you like better, or title ideas, or how to teach.
Academically, Ricky
Beautiful photograph. I’m partial to the latter and hope to see how it evolves. Maybe don’t ditch the other, though. I like that you don’t know yet what it’s getting at. I hope the class went well and am excited about your present opportunity at UCSD—for you and your art.
