Endnotes
I visited the Border Craft exhibit at the Mandeville Art Gallery at UCSD recently. My ekphrastic sonnet was originally written in response to La cuerda floja / The Tightrope (2025) by Marisa Raygoza. Her work was, as were all of the exhibited works, fantastic. My poem is also thinking of (and using language from an email about) a trio of recent campus deaths and slew of revoked student visas. Also, it was written in the context of a class about “borders” (considering San Diego’s proximity to a national one) so that concept is in this poem, too. A lot going on.
WRITING PROMPT: What (mental, physical, social, metaphysical, individual) borders do you navigate?
