Happy Thursday! No new poem this week (I know—but look: if you’re itching for some good poetry I’ll throw in a banger at the end of this post, just for you) but instead a lil recap.
Last year I posted my top 3 poems of Oliveira Poetry so far, so I thought it would be fun to do it again before churning some new funky fresh words of 2024. If you’ve already read these, thanks!! If you’re new here or just one of those friends who says “I’ve been meaning to read your poems! They’re unread in my inbox! I care!” then here’s to chance encounters.
THE TOP 3 POEMS POSTED ON MY SUBSTACK IN 2023 ACCORDING TO “DATA”
Most viewed post: “Communion” 2.16.23
This poem is a love poem, circa Valentine’s Day, with a couple lofty sentences about love, so I guess maybe I get why this is the most viewed one but also not sure considering it’s a decent poem at best. There’s about 120 subscribers to this Substack (love you) but this post got 370 views!! What!
Most liked post: “The Poetry Section” 1.19.23
10 likes! Wowza! Likes are a bad metric because I think most of you just read this as an email in your inbox, and likes happen via the official Substack app or website which requires an account. So I don’t know what to make of this, but second place has 6 likes, so this one stands out. Thanks! Support your local seller of good poetry!
The one the most amount of people texted me about: “Palm” 11.2.23
Which is nice because I think this is my favorite poem I wrote this year.
I really appreciate you reading my stuff. Thank you. Here’s to more beauty in the small things in the year ahead.
As promised, a banger: “First Poem” by Eileen Myles from the book I mentioned last week.
Happy new year, Ricky
i would never use that many exclamation marks
